Open Development Mekong publishes a new page on sustainable development goals (SDGs)
Throughout the Lower Mekong Countries (LMCs), local strategies are being developed to monitor the implementation of the SDGs. Yet, these metrics are not helpful without baseline data, which is inconsistent, if not unavailable entirely, for Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia. What data is available is often not openly available. Further complicating monitoring and evaluation of implementation are the variables of ongoing localization, evolving methodologies, and externalities: indirect but inevitable positive effects or negative impacts caused by one country’s actions on another, such as transboundary pollution; policies on international investment; biodiversity loss embedded in trade; and investment in conflict prevention.17 Thus, each LMC has its unique hurdles to leap over in order to meet the SDGs, and progress looks different in each of the countries.
