Third Lao furniture fair opens
The 3rd Lao Wood Furniture Fair 2017 officially launched for display and sale at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane on January 8 after the exhibition was pre-opened on January 7. The fair will run from January 7-15, in cooperation with the Trade and Product Promotion Department and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The opening was attended by Vientiane Mayor, Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Oudet Souvannavong, and representatives from international organisations and the private sector. The purpose of the fair is to implement the Prime Minister’s order 15/PM into practical achievements, to protect forests and create value-added wooden products, as well as rattan and bamboo goods, by using technology and innovation. Vice President of the Lao Furniture Association, Mr Kongmala Phommalay, said it also aimed to increase the capacity of Lao wood product manufacturers to compete in local and international markets, create job opportunities for local people, reduce unemployment and rise above poverty in the future.
