Old mines destroyed in Pursat
More than 100 landmines and unexploded ordnance were destroyed on February 21 by deminers in Pursat province’s Veal Veng district. District police officer Solie Mesa told Khmer Times on February 23 that a large variety of dangerous material had been found and destroyed. “All those found were remnants of war that had been buried underground in local farmers’ fields,” he said. Police informed demining experts from Halo Trust Cambodia after district authorities were told about the discovery by local farmers, added Mr. Mesa. “Over 10 days ago, Halo Trust Cambodia experts discovered and destroyed 106 pieces of different kinds of explosives, including anti-tank mines, DK 82 mortars and rocket-propelled grenades,” he said, adding that Halo Trust’s work in the area was ongoing.
