Mothers giving birth in Vientiane hospitals still at risk
Mothers giving birth in Vientiane hospitals still face a risk of death similar to local community healthcare centres due to medical staff’s lack of ability and treatment experience, according to an expert.
Medical professionals should take new steps to expand and improve national obstetrics and gynaecology services despite the maternal mortality rate per number of live births having declined in recent years, the health official said.
An obstetrics expert from the Ministry of Health, Dr Alongkone Phengsavanh made the remarks in an interview with Vientiane Times yesterday during the two-day 10th National Congress in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the capital.
