Ministry reviews progress in health sector
Ministry of Health officials and personnel from around the country met on January 16 in Vientiane to review the Health Sector Governance and Nutrition Programme for 2015-2016 and discuss plans for the year ahead. Participants reported the progress of their health activities and shared future plans. Director General of the ministry’s Department of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr Pasongsith Boupha, said the meeting was important go over the results of last year’s programme and discuss activities going forward. The Health Sector Governance and Nutrition Programme is the first development programme in the sector funded by the Asian Development Bank and World Bank to improve the quality of health services and investment in infrastructure and capacity development, Dr Pasongsith said. The programme is helping the ministry to implement the five-year health sector development plan for 2016-2020 and efforts to overcome challenges to meet the health-related Millennium Development Goal targets.
