Govt urged to adopt sustainable devt goals
The representative of the United Nations Development Program has called on the Duterte administration to adopt the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, saying it would help make a difference in poverty reduction and socioeconomic development. UNDP country manager Titon Mitra told reporters the Philippines would be able to achieve results under the UN SDGs, the successor to the Millennium Development Goals, as the new administration is investing in various sectors. “We can see targeting in core municipalities, so we should obviously see some tangible results as results of those investments,” Mitra said. Last year, 17 SDGs were adopted by members of the United Nations, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SDGs aim to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change.
