Cambodia seeks demining aid
Cambodia has asked Belgium to help it get rid of wartime mines and unexploded ordnance, still a cause of injuries and deaths. Ouch Borith, a secretary of state at the Foreign Ministry, spoke of the request after Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met Belgian Ambassador to Cambodia Philippe Kridelka at the Foreign Ministry on February 13. The meeting was intended to boost ties between the two nations and both Belgium and Cambodia pledged to continue their cooperation. Mr. Borith said Belgium’s grant assistance for demining ended in 2012. “His Excellency Prak Sokhonn asked the Belgian side to reconsider providing additional aid on demining operations in the kingdom,” he said. Mine clearing is one of the top priorities for the government in terms of rehabilitation and development of the country.
